SMALL TEAMS. MORE WAYS TO JOIN IN.

How Many Scavenger Hunt Teams Do You Need?

The minimum number of teams is a useful starting point, but it is not the only way to split a group. The best arrangement also gives each person room to contribute. Start with the selected hunt’s team limit, then look at how the people will fit together.

Use the limit for the hunt you are booking

StrayPics ready-made city hunts allow up to six people per team and start at $99 per team. Photo Quest allows up to eight for $129, while Custom-Built Scavenger Hunt allows up to eight for $189. For those two eight-person formats, four to six players per team is recommended for the best experience.

Mission: Teamwork and Ghosted allow up to six people per team at $149 per team, with a three-team minimum. Virtual Scavenger Hunt allows up to five at $99 per team, also with a three-team minimum. Remote hosting is included in the virtual price.

Calculate the minimum, then balance the groups

Divide the headcount by the hunt's team capacity and round up to the next whole team. Then apply any minimum-team requirement. For example, sixteen people need at least three city-hunt teams because two teams only cover twelve people.

You do not have to fill every team to capacity. Sixteen people could split into six, five and five, or book four teams of four. The second option buys another team, but gives more people a chance to read clues, take photographs and discuss each answer.

  • 8 people on a city hunt: at least 2 teams, from $198; 4 and 4 is a simple split.
  • 12 people on a city hunt: at least 2 teams, from $198; choose 3 teams of 4 for $297 if you prefer smaller groups.
  • 18 people on a city hunt: at least 3 teams, from $297.
  • 16 people on Virtual Scavenger Hunt: at least 4 teams, $396 including the remote host.
  • 10 people on Mission: Teamwork: 3 teams minimum, $447; a 3, 3 and 4 split works within the team limits.

Mix strengths without making it complicated

Ask whether anyone needs to stay with a child, family member or support person. Keep those practical pairings together first. Then mix people who enjoy different parts of a game: observation, puzzles, photography and keeping the group organized.

Avoid making the fastest or most confident people captains by default. A calm person who makes room for suggestions can help a team more than someone who answers every clue immediately. Give each team a clear contact and let roles rotate as the hunt progresses.

Confirm the headcount before collecting money

Share the price basis clearly: the game is priced per team, not per person. Explain whether the group is booking the minimum number of teams or choosing smaller groups. If a friend drops out, the price of an already chosen team does not automatically become a different advertised per-person rate.

Keep admission, food, transport and any optional host separate from the game total. An onsite host costs $350 once per booking and needs at least five days' notice. It is not charged once for every team. Virtual Scavenger Hunt already includes a remote host and does not use that onsite add-on.

Match the format as well as the arithmetic

A couple can book one city-hunt team without joining strangers. A larger celebration may prefer several teams and a shared wrap-up. A remote group needs the virtual format, with a confirmed date, start time and time zone at least five days ahead.

Use the selected hunt page and booking guide to check current details before paying. The right team plan should be easy to explain in one message, so the organizer can enjoy the outing too.
